The NETwork goal is to engage our membership at the national and local levels in support of the Access from AT&T program expansion. As part of the AT&T/DTV Merger agreements, the FCC mandated the offering of Low Cost BroadbandServices to access the Internet to qualified low income households in AT&T’s 21-State footprint.
This Agreement provides an opportunity for The NETwork and its local chapters to expand its presence within the communities we serve, build new relationships, and focus a positive light on AT&T in our communities.
The NETwork will reach 50,000 touches by the end of 2019. For more information or to get engaged, please contact your chapter president or Chief Program Officer DeWanda Ricks.
This year, our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day event titled, “Change Forward”, challenged us to look at our past, our present and our future to make changes in our communities.
In 2018, we will examine Dr. King’s speech titled, “Where Do We Go From Here?”
In 1967, Dr. King isolated himself from the demands of the Civil Rights Movement, rented a house in Jamaica without a telephone, and labored over what was to be his final manuscript.
In his most prophetic work, which has been unavailable for more than ten years, he laid out his thoughts, plans, and dreams for America’s future. Dr. King addressed the need for better jobs, higher wages, decent housing, and quality education. With a universal message of hope that continues to resonate, Dr. King demanded an end to global suffering, asserting that humankind, for the first time, had the resources and technology to eradicate poverty.
Today, we ask the same question posed by Dr. King in his speech, “Where Do We Go From Here?”. We will continue to address our Chairman’s challenge and take a deeper dive into what happens next to execute on solutions; driving us closer to understanding.
Your local chapter will be hosting a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. themed C.A.F.E. conversation during the week of January 9, 2018. Stay tuned for more information.
The NETwork is please to announce an exciting opportunity for The NETwork Members!
AT&T has been offered a wonderful opportunity, and we’d like to share it with you and enlist your assistance in hosting a Watch Party.
Open Road Films, Tang Media and the makers of MARSHALL have offered a one-time pre-release screening of this new feature film about the early life of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall to AT&T employees and any invited guests. Please see the film trailer. Justice Marshall’s thoughts and message transcend time and location.
We’d like your help to arrange “watch parties” to view this film in various AT&T locations across the country on Wednesday, October 11, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. (The movie is 1 hour, and 58 minute in length). Collaboration here will benefit everyone.
What’s in it for you? Of course, there’s the opportunity to view a new film and learn about a great and influential man. Also, while the studio is not charging us for this event, they’ve agreed our watch parties can be used as fundraisers, as long as 100% of the funds go to a charitable cause such as hurricane/earthquake relief or a scholarship fund.
We’re hoping for collaborations in setting up these parties and advertising the event locally.
Responsibilities for setting this up would include:
Arranging for a multi-purpose room or auditorium location which has a large viewing screen and quality audio output
Ensuring the availability of expertise to appropriately manage the A/V feed from Dallas or another centralized location
Identifying any needs for sign interpreters and arranging for them if needed (costs will be paid by Corporate D&I)
Sign-up is now also open for The NETwork-Membership table at the 2017 ERG Conference! We have several shifts available to meet fit your schedule and you can sign up for as many shifts as you’d like! Don’t delay! The last day to sign up is 8/25, so sign up now. Contact Gina McCray directly for further assistance!
